CEO's Message
The re-birth of RAK Airways is set to play a key role in the promotion of Ras Al Khaimah as a destination in its own right.
Since 2003, H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qassimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has implemented wide-ranging organisational and economic reforms to promote local businesses, while attracting a steady flow of foreign investment.
Committed to realising the latent potential of Ras Al Khaimah, he has focused on improving the sectors in which the emirate has a comparative advantage: tourism, real estate, and manufacturing.
Ras Al Khaimah is truly blessed with a natural coastline, the majestic Hajar Mountain range and lush stretches of date palms that lead into the rolling sand dunes and an abundance of wildlife. It has long been a secret oasis for those seeking refuge from the congestion and skyscrapers of the other emirates.
Ras Al Khaimah is aiming to quadruple tourist numbers by 2012, and plans to push the number of five-star hotel rooms up from 1,400 to 7,500 in addition to having at least 30 hotels.
In terms of revenue, hotels are performing extremely well, with high occupancy rates. As the emirates' popularity has risen, hotels have seen a marked increase in both business and leisure travellers.
A vibrant economy and stable political environment means Ras Al Khaimah presents a compelling business opportunity for investors. The cost of living and doing business in Ras Al Khaimah are markedly lower than other emirates and far less than traditional business centres such as New York, London or Mumbai, yet it is perfectly positioned at the cross-roads of Europe and Asia.
As a testament to this fact, the emirate recently received the Financial Times Group's award for 'Most Attractive Place in the Middle East for Foreign Direct Investment'.
The Ras Al Khaimah International Airport is currently being refurbished so that it is equipped to handle more aircraft and passengers, with plans for a parallel runway to be built to allow more planes to taxi at any one time.
Its aim is nothing short of turning itself into a catalyst for the economic expansion of Ras Al Khaimah through developing an industry identity and quality brand image for the airport as well as engaging all stakeholders in creating synergy for the benefit of Ras Al Khaimah and its people.
Located about eighteen kilometres from the city centre, the airport is not only modern, with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities but also boasts a 3,760 metres long runway capable of handling the biggest aircraft currently in service, including the new A 380.
Working closely with Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, RAK Airways, can ensure that all passengers using the airport receive friendly, personalised service. At Ras Al Khaimah International Airport passengers should take no longer than 20 minutes from check-in to the departure lounge- which is what we at RAK Airways refer to as the 'RAK Advantage'.
